We live in a 'lifestyle block', a rural property perched on a hill.

It's a clearing in a pine forest about 20km inland from Napier and Hastings cities on the Pacific East coast.  We can see Cape Kidnappers about 30km away.

With no other residences in the forest and just a few houses in sight (aside from Hastings city and Havelock North ~15km away), the noise floor is low.  Most of the QRM is either self-inflicted wideband hash from switchmode power supplies in our computers and phone chargers, or DX QRM.

Since taking this photo, much of the surrounding pine forest has been felled and some of the windbreak trees around the house have lived up to their name by breaking in storms.  We have far more firewood than we need!

Our side of the globe is very wet
